UPDATE: 12/5/2002

Hi everybody! Speaking of hot luscious hooters, I recently started creating therapeutic art pillows from my used brassieres. They are pretty and comfortable, with various bead and fringe work, and each have a slogan such as "Boobs are people too", " My eyes are up here", and "All breasts are beautiful". I am hoping to have several more completed by March, when the South by Southwest music conference in Austin takes place. I will be showing them in an art show at tinderbox 13 along with many other musicians art. Check out the website at www.tinderbox13.com ... If any of you are interested in buying a therapeutic art pillow, let me know and I will custom make one just for you.

The sex work art show is over, and though I only did four shows with them, I had a great time. Annie Oakley, the luscious organizer, pulled off an amazing thing and she should be commended for her dedication. I loved all the performers and felt honored to be surrounded by all that talent. I wish I could have done more shows, but I spend half my life in a van on the road, and I wasn't dying to get back in one.

The show in Tucson was killer too, and they even mentioned us on the O'Reilly show. He was talking about the controversy in Tucson; college funds being used to finance ILLICIT (GASP!) sex in the guise of alleged art. At the end of the show, O'Reilly said "At the end of the day, I'd pay $20 to see Candye Kane and Mistress Carmen!" It's nice to get free publicity, even from him. David Sterry and Carmen li were awesome and organizer Juliana was smart AND beautiful!

I want to thank all of you who supported the sex work art show, and all of you who have come to my shows this last year. It has been a really difficult year. Many nightclubs have folded and the ones that are left have cut their budgets and sometimes cut live music entirely. So I really appreciate it when you come out to see me. I hope you all have great holidays and I hope to see you in 2003! Love and tupper kisses, Candye XXX

Thanks so much for all your support! I won BEST BLUES BAND again at the San Diego music awards. I was totally shocked and pleased. I wanted to dedicate my award to the recently departed Doug Randal. He was a great pianist who died in his own small plane in a freak accident at Palomar Airport here in carlsbad, just last month. He used to play with me every December at a Christmas gig we did together. As usual, I was so surprized when I won, I didnt know what the hell to say. I forgot to dedicate it to him and my impromptu speech seems to get lamer every time I win...oops. Thanks to everyone who voted online. My ex husband Tom yearsley also won an award for his production work on Earl Thomas's cd "The Elector Sessions". They won the award for Recording of the Year. Earl was so happy and we all called Tom on the cell to congratulate him...It was a really fun awards show and all the bands were so awesome. Especially Agua dulce!! My pal Jack Tempchin also won a lifetime acheivement award!! Jack has written tons of hits like "Peaceful Easy Feeling" for the Eagles, and lots of songs for me and with me, like "All You Can Eat", I'm On A Bender, Everybody Needs Love, The Blues I feel For You, and Who Do You Love? He performed with Johnny Rivers at the awards. Johnny is so cute!! It was a great show all around. I ended up giving my award to my former bass player Greg Willis. Greg played with me for 7 years when we were sleeping on people's floors and really suffering. In addition to playing with me, he has played with virtually every blues band in san diego for over 25 years. He really deserved that award and it seemed to make him happy. Thanks also to those of you who wrote in to add Sue Palmers name to the Jazz band list. She didn't win but she should have been nominated. Sue, as many of you know has been battling breast cancer. send her an email and let her know you care...www.suepalmer.com. The awards don't always reflect the people who should be nominated. Noticeably missing were local blues artists, Blue Largo, Ruby and they Red Hots, Billy Watson and Lady Star, to name a few. Also my son Evan's band In4rhythm deserved a nomination. They may be touring with me on my U.S. tour in the Spring.

I am really excited to be home again. Europe was fun but I am so exhausted. I have erotic dreams about my own bed and now I can be in it!! YIPPEE.. I am having two birthday shows..one at the calypso restaurant on Nov. 21 in Leucadia, and one at the Blue Cafe on Nov. 17th...so please come if you can. This weekend my show in Santa Barbara at the Creekside is open to the public! I didn't know that and so I didnt advertise it...

I am also excited to announce that I have secured another record deal with a German label called RUF records and will be recording in January for an April release. I want to thank all of you for your patience and support. I am hopeful that this will be my best cd yet. It will feature Kyle Jester, Paul Fasulo and Bryan Ugatechea and many other guests both old and new...The music business is really in trouble right now. Clubs are closing and artists are struggling. With an impending war, we are all freaked out about the future. If you can support live music shows, please do. Music and Art are the things that can unify all of us across all borders...At least, I think its a noble thing, and means more than drinking jack daniels and partying with my friends...

I am so grateful to have had another year of health and music. Thanks again for sharing your personal stories of triumph and struggle with me at my shows and through email. Hope to see you all soon!!! Love & Kisses, Candye Kane

UPDATE: 10/9/2002

I have been having a great tour in europe but I cant wait to come back home to the good ol' usa and all of you, my friends and fans. I am in copenhagen denmark now and I love it here. the people are gorgeous and the danes have a great history of tolerance and civility. My show in paris was fabulous. my ex lover showed up in drag, and the people were so responsive... three encores. my show in weinheim germany was also extremely special, at muddys club. the promoter there, benny schmidt is the sweetest guy - plying me with drinks and food all night long. before we left for europe, we had a great usa tour also. thanks so much to all of you who came out and supported the shows. philly was terrific, at silk city. mardi cohen and her friends went all out for the show and had an amazing brunch for us the next day with bagels and lox, whitefish and fruit salad. the rhythm and roots fest in rhode island was also really fun, and my two days in lincoln nebraska at the zoo bar were incredible. kansas city was also a great show at the grand emporium.I dislocated my knee in austin, texas at the continental. we played with the amazing trio, high noon. I was wearing my new corset from mistress antoinette and I got a little carried away. I forgot that the purpose of a corset is to keep you immobilized and in one corner like a good girl. I was dancing around a bit too enthusiastically onstage, while singing led zeppelins' "whole lotta love" when my knee just went flying out of the socket. I almost fell on poor guitarist kyle. it feels much better now but I need to get back to california where I can walk on the beach everyday.

I HATE people who complain about how miserable they are in europe, but I have turned into the very thing I hate. people think its all glamourous, (and a lot of it is) but the other night we drove for 24 hours sitting up in a van, to get to an overnite ferry to take us to norway. the boat was sold out so the only room I could get was right next to the engine room and the other four guys in the band had to share. my room was so close to the engine that the entire bed was vibrating. picture trying to sleep with someone shaking your head until your teeth rattle. I walked around the boat crying when I realized I would go another night without sleep, until a boat employee took pity on me and let me sleep in this room with 50 other people sitting up airplane style!! when we did get to norway, we had to drive 8 hours to the gig in the snow!!! But the music is what makes it all worth it, and because of y'all, there is actually someone listening to the music. Thanks so much. Please go to www.sdmusicawards.com and vote for me for best blues artist. also, please write in "sue palmer" for best traditional jazz, and write in my son evans band "in4rhythm" for best alternative. voting ends october 9th!!!..see you soon..love & kisses, candye kane in denmark

UPDATE: 8/12/2002

Hello everybody. I?ve had an extremely busy summer and it?s been really fun. I am on my way out to the midwest/east coast for a tour this friday but wanted to update you.

I just modeled for my friend, Mistress Antoinette and her company, Versatile Fashions. She is an expert at corsetry and she created all the corsets for the Moulin Rouge movie. She is starting a large sized line and so I modeled for her website with a few of my beautiful big girl friends; (Lasha Lane and Saint Teresa Stone). It was a lot of fun and we all got free corsets for our trouble. The one I got is on page 5 of the Versatile Fashions Catalogue. I also got the Diva dress. Check out her stuff. Its amazing.

I have been super busy working on my Memoirs. It has been very cathartic to write this book and I hope a lot of you will read it. I had a pretty interesting, if turbulent, childhood and you can find out all about my titillating past as a porn queen and model. I am very hopeful that the book will be successful. I have had a lot of editing help from my friend, David Sterry. He is the author of a bestselling book called ?Chicken? about his life as a male prostitute in Hollywood. Watch for him on an upcoming episode of ?48 Hours.?

I have purchased some fabulous stage clothes recently. One of my favorites is made by Diesel Femme Wear. The dresses are sexy and fun, with feather and chain trim in all sorts of colors. You must check out the website at www.Dieselfemme.com

I am negotiating now with several record companies and will be recording again in January. I am also happy to announce that Kyle Jester has recently rejoined my band. He is the guitar player who sang duets with me, like ?What?s that I Smell?? He is extremely talented and its great to have him back. He replaces Tom Harkenrider, who was also a great person and player. I still have Southside Paulie Fasulo on drums, Bryan Ugartechea on the bass and sometimes Smedley B. on the piano.

San Diego Gay pride and Cityfest were some of my favorite gigs this summer. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community continues to be some of my warmest supporters. They are wonderful people and they give me so much love. I am honored to be a part of the community. The Doheny Blues festival and Waterfront Blues Fest were also amazing gigs. Check out my photos from these wild shows!! Hope to see you all soon!!!

Love and Tupper kisses,

Candye Kane

UPDATE: 5/24/2002

hello everybody! I am back from israel and I had an amazing time. I am so glad I went and ignored all the admonitions and well meaning advice from friends and relatives. I was so inspired by the brave israelis who support live music in the face of constant danger. Every show was sold out and we had to add an extra one to accomodate all the people. I played with the ronnie peterson blues band who were excellent musicians and very nice people. it was interesting to hear the perspective of israelI citizens about terrorism, and to hear their vastly different opinions about how to solve the problem. one thing is certain, violence should never be condoned as a means of political protest. Many groups have been oppressed throughout history, including native americans, african americans; and yet they have rarely turned to violence. Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Mahatma GandhI are all splendid examples of the effectiveness of peaceful protest. politics aside, israel is a lovely country and a beautiful place to visit. Their economy is greatly suffering from the tourist absence, so if you have the $$$ go and visit. the beaches are beautiful, the sand is white and clean and the water is very warm. almost everyone speaks english and they go out of their way to make americans feel comfortable. their security is excellent and there are armed guards outside every mall and restaurant. they check your purses and your person to make sure no one is carrying a bomb. I felt much safer there than I feel here. I hope american starts being a bit more vigilant about our security before its too late!!go to my website for soon to be posted photos from israel and my recent trip to australia..

I came home really sick, so I apologize to those of you who went to my shows last night at calypso and tuesday at fat katz. I will be at harvelles tonite but will do only one show from 10-11:30...so please come.

my hotmail account is permanently closed. msn decided to close it after 5 years and paying for extra storage because someone reported me to "spam mail abuse" for my calendar, so if you want to reach me, use this address... candyekane@emayhem.com, or candye69@aol.com (of course "69" is for the year I was born!! ; )

I also will not be doing a live recording in santa cruz on this trip, due to glitches in negotiations, but will be recording a new cd very soon. I just want to sincerely thank all of you for supporting me and my music all these years. traveling around the globe and having the privilege of coming back home safely to share my music and message with YOU is a tremendous opportunity. thank you so much for making me feel like it is all worth it!!!

UPDATE: 4/25/2002

hey everybody..please join with me in a boycott of msn/hotmail. I was a paying customer who bought extra storage and had my account for five years. all it took was one person to report me to spam/abuse and my entire account was closed without warning. I lost hundreds of contacts with people all over the world...journalists, musicians, booking agents, friends, fans and festival buyers. it has been a time consuming, costly nightmare. hotmail/msn do not care what the content is of your message, you can write "good morning" to someone in the subject line, and if they don't know you, don't like you, or are having a bad day, all it takes is a cut/paste and send, and your account is history. it is unfair that after 5 years of service, they dont even take the time to read the offending email and give you a chance to respond. I have spent countless hours now on the phone to msn, (long distance - they have no 800 number), spoken to several different people, sent email after email to msn service help and no one cares. They all say I agreed to this treatment when I signed up AND they refuse to give me my money back for the year in advance of storage I purchased to protect the data in my account! anyone who has a hotmail account is risking everything! back up your data and BOYCOTT HOTMAIL!!!

UPDATE: 4/12/2002

hello y?all...australia was amazing and I had such a great time. I was so depressed after 9/11 and the state of our planet. it was great to go down under and play music with such awesomely talented people. I was on sensory overload! at one point I was sitting at a table with marcia ball, keb mo, tommy castro and bob brozman!! I sat in with bob brozman and aussie musician jeff lang. bob is the king of national guitar and he is an ethno-musicoligist. he taught me things about music I had only dreamed about. visit his website at www.bobbrozman.com if you are a guitar fan or just a genius follower. bob is defecting to australia because he is upset with the current u.s. government. his views are controversial and intellectual, but his music is uplifting and unbelievable...

I also hung out with my old pal wayne hancock who had my former guitarist and friend, chris masterson with him. we drank and caroused and had a tremendous time. glenn tilbrook from squeeze was also there and we hung out together. he is so talented and his voice is crystal clear and pure. keb mo was very sweet and asked me if I would go to melbourne with him the next night. call me crazy, but I declined. other favorites of mine on the fest, were an all girl, melbourne based group named GIT. they did tight hillbilly harmonies and were all mommies too. also ?Fruit? was a fantastic all female band with amazing energy. they are coming back to the USA very soon. check out their website.. www.fruitmusic.com. john butler and jack johnson were mellow, peace loving and incredible. at one point, jack and I had hundreds of people in line to buy our respective cds. I told jack he gets the cutest chicks. he told me that I did!

I also fell in love with OzomatlI - a great band from east l.a. they play a high energy combination of salsa, hip hop with a dash of klezmer thrown in. my old pals guy davis, joe lewis walker and steve earle were there too. and bela fleck was staying in our hotel so I got to spend time with the guys from his band and they were very nice and a lot of fun. karl denson and his band were very sweet and I was reunited with michael hills blues mob and buddy guy !!! I LOVE australia and would love to buy a house there someday, but for now, i'm glad to be back home in california.

I am leaving for israel in two weeks. I know many of you are worried about me, but I have been dodging bullets my whole life, both metaphorically and physicially. east la was a tough place to grow up and I survived. I know I will be okay in israel as there are armed guards at all of the theaters I am playing. I won't be doing much sight seeing on this trip, but I am sure that my message of hope and love will come at a time that many people need to hear it. pray for my safety and the safety of all people who are the victims of violence and oppression. what the world needs now is peace...and of course, multiple orgasms. (for now i?ll just settle for peace). when I return, I am planning on recording a live cd in one of my favorite cities, santa cruz, at moes alley. I will record some new songs, and several songs from my cd, diva la grande, which is now out of print. keep checking my website for more info about this recording and plan on joining us for two fun filled nights at moes ....

I am proud to announce my new guitarist tom harkenrider. tom has lived in tucson and san luis obispo, and he is a great swing and blues guy and VERY good looking. I still have the best blues drummer anywhere, southside paulie fasulo on drums, and the wild and handsome bryan ugartechea on bass. we are sounding tighter and better than ever, so come and see a live show soon! you never know who will show up. we just had the great RJ Mischo play harmonica and sing with us at cozys, and sue palmer has been showing up to play some wicked piano too.

I hope things are getting better for YOU in your world. thanks so much for your continued interest and support...

love & kisses,
candye
